Ashley Killar MCI (Dance)
Director: Ecole Ballet Studios
Having trained at the Lower and Upper Royal Ballet School, London, Ashley Killar danced as a soloist with Stuttgart Ballet, Scottish Ballet and the Royal Ballet. He founded his own Company in South Africa and won the Scenaria Award and the Nederburg Prize for services to dance education. After a year as Ballet Master to Scottish Ballet, in 1991 Mr Killar became Artistic Director of Royal New Zealand Ballet. He assumed directorship of Ecole Ballet Studios in August 1996 and added that of SCECGS Redlands Dance Academy 2005-6. He is currently working on a doctorate in dance education.
Crystal Wong RAD RTS, LRAD, ARAD, BA (Hons), Grad. Dip Choreography (VCA), Certified Pilates Instructor (DMA). Born in Hong Kong, Crystal pursued full time training at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) in 1994 where she gained her Diploma. Awarded a scholarship she went to London for three years where she completed the Royal Academy of Dance degree BA (Hons) in the Art and Teaching of Ballet. In 1999 she moved to Melbourne where she further pursued her study towards a Diploma in Choreography at the Victorian College of the Arts. Crystal joined Ecole in 2005.
Jessica
Steed-Burton BA Hons ARAD Jessica
trained at Ecole Ballet and Dance Theatre for 6 years, completing her RAD
Advanced II and HSC Dance Studies, before continuing her studies at the Rambert
School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance. With a flare for choreography, she
performed and presented works in every Student Choreography shows and was
honoured to perform her self choreographed solo “Where I Come Back To” at the
Royal Opera House to critical acclaim. After graduating Bachelor of Arts with
Honours, Jessica continued to perform and choreograph throughout the UK,
working with many contemporary and neo-classical dance companies. She now
teaches Contemporary Dance and HSC Dance at Ecole.
Guest teachers and tutors from Ecole’s faculty take evaluation classes from time to time.
Study hours Friday evenings 4.30-7.30 or 8pm. Preliminary Course: average 2.5 hours tuition per week of term plus average 0.5-1.0 hour per week home study / Exam Year: average 3.5 hours per week including home study.
Assignments are set 2-3 times per term and for the holidays, and parents are asked to help ensure that students complete these timeously.
Written reports on HSC students’ progress are available, on request, to parents and/or own school. Students, who have, for any reason, fallen behind in their HSC Dance work, may be required to have coaching lessons.
The assessment procedure for the current year is available on request and will be made known to all students well in advance. Assessment criteria prescribed by the NSW Board of Studies are followed closely.
General information.
An extensive library of books and videos is available for the students’ use. Video recordings of the students’ progress are made for their own use and, in case of illness or injury at exam time, for evaluation by the Board.
Assignments are set throughout the courses and parents are asked to give every encouragement to their children’s library and theatre visits, viewing of the appropriate video material, etc., etc.
Tests are conducted each term for the Preliminary Course cohort and assessment of the Full Course students’ work are held throughout the year. The marks from the Full Course assessments are sent to the Board of Studies and to parents.
Parents must ensure that the relevant teacher at their child’s own school receives a copy. The practical exam is undertaken during the third term of the year and the theory exam in the fourth term depending on Board of Studies requirements.
Ecole Ballet Studios is situated adjacent to Lindfield Railway Station.
Acceptance of prospective students to all Ecole Ballet Studios Courses is at the discretion of the directors.
HSC Dance TIMETABLE
Friday evenings 4.30-7.30 or 4.30- 8.00pm
Several sessions for Major Electives will be held outside these times. They will normally be in the 2nd and 3rd term of the Full Course and be arranged at days and time that are mutually convenient.
4.30 - 6.00 Contemporary dance class OR Practical work AND
6.00 - 7.30 or 8.00pm HSC Dance Theory and Practical
Terms are either 9 or 10 weeks
